In the Middle Ages, the silhouette of the Abbey of the Dunes dominated the landscape at Koksijde. A visit to the Abbey Museum offers you the opportunity to walk along the ancient walls in peace and quiet, surrounded by beautiful nature.
Erasmus spent five months in this Gothic house (1450-1515). Today the museum houses a collection of paintings (Holbein, Bosch, Metsys), a library with a rich collection of old prints and a philosophical garden.
The double church, dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Basil in the 12th century, consists of a lower church that has preserved its Romanesque character and a neo-gothically decorated upper church where the relic of the Holy Blood is kept.
